An unusual chronic keratoconjunctivitis in the cat

The clinical features and treatment of an unusual type of chronic keratoconjunctivitis occurring specifically in the domestic cat are described in a series of five patients. The disease is characterized by the appearance of distinctive plaques of chronic inflammatory tissue on the corneal and conjunctival surfaces. Corneal biopsy material from two of the patients demonstrated the presence of an unidentified eosinophilic deposit within the anterior corneal stroma and epithelium. Although treatment may include keratectomy, cure is perhaps most easily affected using megestrol acetate therapy.
