Lipid keratopathy in a cat is recorded. Material removed at superficial keratectomy was examined by light, polarizing and electron microscopy. The lesion consists of two zones: (1) a highly cellular zone containing mainly modified keratocytes situated immediately beneath the anterior epithelium, and (2) a band of lipid debris and macrophages within the anterior third of the corneal stroma. Detailed ultrastructural pathological observations are reported on both zones. The pathogenesis and treatment of the condition are discussed.
