A modified Kirschner‐Ehmer apparatus using hoof acrylic as the stabilizing bar was used for fracture fixation in a series of birds. Adequate reduction and stabilization were achieved in most birds. Complications that developed in some birds were life threatening, emphasizing the need for medical management prior to surgical intervention in avian species.
