The complications of diaphyseal fractures treated surgically and by closed methods are described with reference to 100 dogs. Instability and infection were the most common causes of complications. Fifty‐nine per cent of dogs recovered after corrective treatment while failures were mainly encountered in small dogs with non‐union fractures of the distal radius and ulna and dogs with chronic ostomyelitis.
