The management of two tortoises ( Testudo hermanni and Testudo graeca ) with retained ova is described and discussed. Caesarean delivery of the ova was successful in one case but the other tortoise died post‐operatively. Pseudomonas and Proteus spp. were cultured from an ovum in the latter case and the same Pseudomonas was recovered post‐mortem from a heart blood sample.
