The clinical and pathological findings in seventy tortoises (mostly Testudo graeca ) are described. Diagnostic techniques used included microbiological, histopathological and parasitological examination, and both these and the clinical procedures are described and discussed. A variety of conditions was encountered; gastrointestinal helminthiasis and necrotic stomatitis were most common, but other diagnoses included hypovita‐minoses, constipation, abscesses and trauma. On no occasion was a Salmonella sp. isolated.
