A transthoracic oesophagotomy for the removal of an oesophageal foreign body from a 1^–year–old Yorkshire Terrier bitch is described. The surgical and anaesthetic management of this case was complicated by a tracheo–oesophageal fistula which had arisen as a sequel to oesophageal obstruction.
