Congenital anomalies of the portal vein producing a variety of neurological abnormalities have recently been reported by Ewing et al. (1974), Strom–beck, et al. (1975), and Cornelius et al. (1975). This is a report of two additional cases of anomalous venous drainage of the liver which were manifested by a variety of encephalopathies. Case 1 represents a portal–azygous shunt which was treated medically. Case 2 exhibits some unusual EEG findings and sheds new light on the possible surgical intervention for some of these anomalous shunts.
