The feline urolithiasis syndrome: a review and an inquiry into the alleged role of dry cat foods in its aetiology *

This paper is presented in two sections. Firstly, a review of the literature concerning feline urolithiasis, and secondly the findings of an inquiry carried out by the authors on behalf of the Scientific Committee of the BSAVA into the alleged role of dry cat foods in the aetiology of the condition. A brief outline of the nature of the inquiry is given followed by a critical analysis of the evidence submitted and the conclusions and recommendations as to possible future action. Résumé. Cette communication se présente en deux sections. Premièrement, une revue des articles concernant l'urolithiase féline et deuxièmement les découvertes d'une enquěte menée par les auteurs au nom du Comité Scientifique de la BSA VA dans le rǒle allégué de nourriture sèche pour chats dans l'étiologie de la condition. On donne un bref aperçu de la nature de l'enquěte, suivi d'une analyse critique de l'évidence soumise et des conclusions et des recommandations quant à une action possible future. Zusammenfassung. Dièse Abhandlung ist in zwei Teilen dargestellt. Zuerst eine noch‐malige Durchsicht der Literatur die Katzenharnsteinkrankheit betrifft und zweitens die Befunde einer Nachforschung in die angebliehe Rolle von getrocknetem Katzenfutter in die àtiologie des Zustandes, die von den Schriftstellern im Auftrag des wissenschaftlichen Komitees der BSA VA ausgefuhrt wurde. Ein kurzer Unriss ùber die Art der Nacfrage wird gegeben, darauf folgend eine kritische Analyse von vorgelegten Beweisen und die Beschliisse und Empfehlungen fur mǒglische zukunftige Handlung.
