— This is a short refresher article on some aspects of kidney physiology and pathology. It is not intended as a comprehensive review of the subject and sets out to discuss the normal function of the kidney and some of the changes which occur in disease, in outline only. Résumé— Cet article, simple rappel de quelques aspects de physiologie et de pathologie des reins, ne prétend pas être une revue complète de cette question. C'est seulement à grands traits qu'il ouvre discussion sur la fonction normale du rein et sur quelques‐unes des transformations qui surviennent au cours de la maladie. Zusammenfassung— Es handelt sich um einen kurzen Artikel zur Fortbildung über einige Aspekte der Nierenphysiologie und ‐pathologie. Damit ist keine umfassende Übersicht über dieses Gebiet beabsichtigt. Nur in grossen Zügen kommen darin die normale Funktion der Niere und einige bei Krankheit auftretende Veränderungen zur Sprache.
