This paper deals with the influence of tectonic factors on teh distribution and generation of oil and gas accumulations in oil‐and gas‐bearing basins ancient platforms. Threee main platform evolutionary stages, with their corresponding structural‐formational associations, may be recognized; the petroleum potential of each stage is different. Important factors are: the intensity of subsidence; the areal distribution of individual formations, and the presence of sulphate‐saltis in teh section, formation regional seals. The influence of inversion processes in the development of “giant”l gas‐condensate accumulations is emphasized, adn the petroleum‐bearing basins of ancient platforms are classified according to their oil and gas reserve.
