A Seven‐Year Follow‐Up Comparing Attendees and Nonattendees at a Statewide, School Employee Wellness Conference

This study involved a follow‐up assessment of the status of school employee wellness programs in the same matched comparison groups examined in 1992. In spring 1999, surveys were mailed to the 98 Texas school districts that sent employees to the statewide health promotion conference at least once during 1988–1991, and to the matched comparison group of 98 nonattendees during 1988–1991. Groups were matched on geographical regions, enrollment, and expenditure per pupil. Follow‐up survey response rates were 59% for the attendee group and 54% for the nonattendee group. Although the follow‐up survey results indicated no significant differences between groups, attendee group respondents reported offering more active employee wellness programs.
