If one is to work as a health worker (counselor, educator, nurse, physician), in a cross-cultural setting, it is important to know about others, to know about oneself and to know about health beliefs. Ann Templeton Brownlee's excellent book outlines not only what is important to know but why it is important and how to find out in areas ranging from politics to health education. A variety of resources follow that can assist in discovering approaches to those who are culturally different. It is altogether fitting and proper that as we approach the end of the 20th century we do as suggested in Objectives for the Nation and develop, ". . . educational approaches that take into account socioeconomic and ethnic differences that may influence both spread of disease and receptivity to change."
