Respondents to a recent survey relative to readership habits of the Journal of School Health reflected a desire for the publication of less highly technical types of research papers. Studies of readers of other professional journals have yielded similar concerns. Several reasons are identified that speak to the practitioner's low regard for research as a consumer. Responsibility for bridging the gap between research and practice should be shared by researchers, educational institutions, professional organizations and professional journals.
