— Fourteen health textbooks, seven in each of the seventh and eighth grades, were analyzed for their content in terms of emphasis, location, and repetition. Items of health information were extracted and the total number of words devoted to each item was counted. The content was assigned to eight large areas of health, 23 topics under the eight areas, and 98 subtopics under the topics. Emphasis was determined on the basis of the number of items and the percentage of words devoted to each area, topic, and subtopic.
