A number of universities have or are developing concentrations in financial counseling. Academics have presented their thoughts on how these programs should be structured. However, the views of financial counseling agency administrators concerning the need for a four‐year degree, course requirements, job responsibilities, and compensation of counselors were not known. Thus, a survey of these administrators was undertaken. They have a preference for college graduates with special emphasis in counseling coursework. However, salaries, at best, are on the low end of college graduates' expectations.
