Statistical modeling can be a powerful tool for analyzing complex hydrogeologic and water quality data. The objectives of this paper are to discuss the nature of statistical models; to describe two types of statistical models, regression models, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) models; and to give examples of how the models have been and could be applied to solve hydrogeologic problems.
