Measurement of the depth to water in wells can be accomplished by timing the fall of a marble or BB. Depth to water can also be determined in terms of the frequency of the reverberations heard in a well. These two methods are called the rock and the bong techniques respectively. Their theoretical basis, their proper execution, and their usefulness are discussed.
