The project developed between the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Office of Appalachian studies and the U. S. Geological Survey for a study of the ground‐water resources in Appalachia had two principal objectives. The first objective was to describe in general terms the ground‐water resources of the Region as a whole and the second objective was to describe in greater detail the ground‐water resources at about 20 selected sites. This paper deals with the methods used to describe the Region as a whole, wich a special emphasis on availability and cost of developing ground water, as was requested by the Office of Appalachian Studies.
