Abstract As part of a Four Year Development Program, the government of Spain is tackling the problem of aridity. Its plans include agricultural, economic and social improvements in many of the country's arid areas. Basic to these improvements is a plan developed to study the ground‐water possibilities of about half of Spain. The study, to be completed in 1967, will result in hydrogeologic maps showing the ground‐water potential of arid areas. If sufficient ground‐water reserves are found, agriculture, tourism and migration from arid areas can all be aided by this program.
