The hydrology of ground‐water recharge depends upon the physical and chemical characteristics of both soil and water. These characteristics must be measured and related to subsurface storage space and water movements to determine the feasibility of a site for recharge and to select appropriate methods and systems of recharge. Then water may be efficiently stored underground to be used independently or conjunctively with releases from surface storage reservoirs.
