Real bottom‐line opportunities stemming from deregulation of the transportation industry have become widespread. To fully exploit the intended benefits, an effective interface between the purchasing and the transportation functions must be achieved. Strategies for an effective interface between these operating units are explored in this article, thus encouraging those responsible to benefit from the current deregulated environment.
