The author is engaged in an ongoing research project dealing with the management of large‐scale projects in the construction and extraction industries in Western Canada. This article reports on one important aspect of the findings: the involvement of procurement and logistics personnel in the various phases of such projects. He identifies a number of problems and discusses suggestions for improved operating effectiveness.
