Vibrio metschnikovii, a potentially pathogenic marine bacterium, was recovered from a wide variety of finfish and shellfish purchased at fish markets and supermarkets. Because limited information is available on the occurrence of this organism in food products and human disease, the observations may be relevant to public health considerations of seafood consumption .
