Rising prices for oil were supposed to have made the synthesis of petroleum liquids from natural gas via a gas‐to‐liquids (GTL) more attractive. Instead, many developments appear to be on hold. Part of the reason has been the rising capital cost of GTL plants. There have also been problems with the new technology.
