Mexico struggles to stem production decline

Mexico is struggling to prevent a sharp decline in its oil production. A 2% decline in the output of crude oil and NGL in 2006 masks the potential for much greater annual decreases in years to come. Such a development would be particularly worrying for the US, which receives 16% of its crude oil imports from Mexico and faces a fall in imports from its other main Latin American supplier, Venezuela, as a result of the bad political relations between the two countries ( see 'Focus', February 2007 ).
