After several years of fairly modest growth in its energy consumption, India is starting to see an acceleration in demand as its economy continues to expand. Demand for gas is forecast to rise faster than most other forms of energy use. Much of the increase will have to come from imports, but it is by no means certain that India can secure as much foreign gas as its energy plans currently require.
