The MX International Congress of Entomology was hosted by China in Beijing, June 28 to July 4, 1992. Because of the strong support of the Chinese government and the enthusiastic cooperation of the entire Chinese entomological community, the congress attracted more participants from more countries than ever before. This report compares the relative strength of Chinese entomological research programs with that of the outside world, the relative strength of different areas of China itself, and the hierarchy, multitude and diversity of institutions involved to varying extent in entomological programs.
