Summary The coat protein gene of groundnut rosette assistor virus (GRAV) was cloned and sequenced. The deduced amino acid sequences of the coat protein and of another protein encoded in a different, overlapping, reading frame resemble those of other luteoviruses. Four monoclonal antibodies against GRAV, prepared using denatured coat protein as immunogen, also reacted with some other luteoviruses in ELISA. Nevertheless, they will be useful as reagents for the identification of GRAV infections in groundnut.
