SUMMARY A method is described for collecting basidiospores of Oncobasidium theobromae onto agar containing 35% w/v sucrose and preparing infective spore suspensions. When cocoa seedlings and clonal cuttings were inoculated, large differences in percentage infection were demonstrated between seedling progenies of resistant and susceptible trees. Resistant clonal cuttings were generally difficult to infect. The value of the technique for resistance screening is discussed.
