SUMMARY Surveys of forage crop diseases in the Republic of Ireland have been conducted annually since 1965. Over fifty fungal diseases have been noted, about half of which are of likely economic importance. Disease control investigations were carried out on the more prevalent diseases, such as crown rust and Ophiobolus patch of ryegrass, leaf fleck of cocksfoot and powdery mildew of tall fescue. Some pathogens previously unrecorded in the British Isles were found. These included Spermospora lolii and Lolium mottle virus on ryegrass, and Mastigosporium kitzebergense on timothy.
