SUMMARY A detailed examination of the larvae, females and cysts of pathotypes 1 and 2 of Heterodera avenae failed to reveal any consistent differences that could be used to distinguish them, nor were usable differences in the soluble proteins revealed by electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gels. Evidently pathotypes 1 and 2 are of subspecific rank.
