SUMMARY The toxicities of γ‐BHC, diazinon, dieldrin, DNOC, heptachlor and parathion to first‐instar hoppers of the desert locust were determined. Parathion was the most toxic followed in descending order of toxicity by dieldrin, γ‐BHC, heptachlor, diazinon and DNOC. Results with diazinon showed a non‐linearity of the probit/log. dose regression line. Changing the post‐treatment temperature from 26 to 31° C. had no effect on the final toxicity of the insecticides, excepting that of dieldrin which was 1·48 times as toxic at the higher temperature.
