SUMMARY Four series of aliphatic nitro compounds have been synthesized and examined for their fungistatic effects in mycelial growth tests. On the basis of the results nine compounds were selected for further study in spore germination tests and as fumigants. They were also examined for protectant and systemic fungicidal activity using broad bean seedlings. A special method was adopted in assessing activity as systemic fungicides whereby fumigant action could be avoided.
