In an attempt to replace the laborious method of assessing macrofauna populations of sewage filters, which involves the separation of the macro‐organisms from unit volumes of stone samples excavated from the filters, it was found that the numbers of Anisopus fenestrate (Scopoli, 1763) larvae taken weekly during 1951 in baited traps placed in the filters were greatly affected by the amount of available food within the filter. A method involving separation by flotation was, however, evolved for the rough estimation of Collembola.
