S ummary An attempt is made to correlate the stage of maturity of the tubers with certain characters in the ontogeny of the vines. Data obtained with regard to the physiological behaviour and the chemical composition of potatoes of different stages of maturity indicate the existence of three more or less distinct stages—adolescence, maturity and ripening—during the development of potato tubers.
