SUMMARY1 Observations are made on the growth of three types of fairy rings found in pastures and elsewhere. 2 Marasmius oreades belongs to a type which causes the death of rings of grass. It behaves as a parasite, destroying grass by means of a toxin. 3 Comments are made on the views of Shanz and Piemeisel, who consider the death of the grass in certain fairy rings is merely due to a drought produced by the presence of mycelium in soil.
