With an increasing number of addicted people seeking help towards their recoveries, clinical nurses working in the addictions‐recovery field are in an excellent position to expand their roles to treat this needy population. The “authenticity model” offers a new way for nurses to increase their skills, knowledge, life experience, and current nursing and addictions theories. The author presents the rationale for an authenticity model and its structure, basic assumptions and tasks, aswell as anecdotal examples and a discussion of nurses' use of the authenticity model.
