SUMMARY Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of the second exon of DRB genes from genomic DNA is described. Sequence‐specific oligonucleotide (SSO) probes have been designed to allow for the typing of DRB alleles. The methods are described in detail and the results of a trial on both homozygous typing cells and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP)‐typed local caucasoid controls are given. The ease of use of this form of DRB typing is emphasized and potential complications are discussed.
