SUMMARY Low GHVR competency is determined by B blood group and major histoin‐compatibility genes or genes linked to B. Low GVHR competency is associated with resistance to the herpesvirus‐induced lymphoma of Marek's disease. Herpesviruses increase genetically low GVHR competency, but have no effect on genetically high GVRH competency. This suggests that some major histoincompatibility genes restrain and lymphogenic herpesviruses stimulate T‐lymphocyte proliferation. B‐associated resistance to herpesvirus lymphoma is attributed to this restraint of T‐lymphocyte proliferation.
