Against the background of overall efforts to roll back the HIV epidemic this paper considers the implications of faltering finances for universal antiretroviral therapy (ART) access and argues for additional funding and to be used efficiently. It discusses the individual and potential community benefits of universal ART access and focuses mainly on the HIV epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa.
