. The paper reviews recent research and publications in order to identify areas of importance for health care providers and professionals to consider in moving successfully towards community care of older Chinese people from a cultural perspective. The Chinese culture is discussed and the particular issues that affect the care of older Chinese are highlighted in the light of proposed changes in health care. Conclusions are drawn about the changing status of elders in Hong Kong and about the implications for both health care professionals and older people themselves.
