. Planning for the International Year of Older Persons began in 1995. This paper overviews the way the Australian Coalition 99 ‐ a coalition of non‐government organisations ‐ was generated and has developed. It outlines some of the benefits of the Year and includes personal reflections by the author, herself an ‘;old’ woman.
