. Japan is said to be the most rapidly ageing society, with one in four people expected to be over the age of 65 by 2020. In addressing the enormous social and economic challenges to provide adequate care for the increasing aged population, there is considerable research into advanced technology for aged care. This paper introduces robotics technology research to be utilised for care and rehabilitation. The technology may be impressive and may also prove to be economically viable, but how is it to be evaluated and implemented so that the best possible care can be provided? The challenges are discussed.
