. The Healthy Older People Program of the South Eastern Sydney Area Health Promotion Service has commenced a long term multi‐faceted approach to improving the quality of life of some highly disadvantaged older citizens in insecure accommodation. This work is based on qualitative research undertaken during needs assessment for a health promotion program for older people. The approach utilises their views and respects their autonomy. Advocacy for policy and environmental change is the principal strategy, working with local, State and Federal governments. Issues addressed in this ongoing project include pedestrian safety, access to fresh food, affordable housing and health and welfare services.
