The majority of programs to address elder abuse centre on the plight of the victim. In contrast, the Elder Abuse Perpetrator Program deals directly with the abuser. Based on the principle of confrontation and utilising cognitive‐behavioural techniques, the program applies to those cases which have not been resolved through supportive educative measures or by abuser self‐resolution. This paper briefly outlines the program and describes some of the valuable lessons learned since its introduction. It also offers suggestions to agencies and practitioners who may wish to implement such a program.
