Two research issues are examined with a view to establishing the viability of a model for disseminating support for family caregivers of dependent elderly persons through psychoeducation in small group settings. Continuing program effectiveness through multiple leadership is described. Secondly, the improved psychological well‐being of 432 caregiver participants is demonstrated in terms of their altered affect balance and levels of state anxiety. The relevance of the model to community‐based age care is discussed. A coordinated and collaborative approach to research and practice is advocated.
