This paper discusses the current practice issues that inform education and promote the need for constant revision and change within gerontological programmes. Current issues that are emerging from the practice area can be identified under the broad headings of service provision, management, emerging technology, ethical decision‐making, community involvement and collaborative practice. Each of these issues has generated needs that require a response from education. An examination of the practice issues and possible educational responses is offered.
