Education and training in gerontology have entered a new era in which a new coalition between government, industry and tertiary education is possible. Major changes on the industrial front have created an expanded focus upon education and training for aged care. New and creative possibilities have been opened up: there is a better opportunity than ever before for a co‐operative alliance between government, industry and tertiary education bodies provided these parties are able to accept and meet the challenges presented.
