Eating is an essential physiological activity which is a source of pleasure throughout life. Older people face risks of malnutrition through poor mobility and catering skills. Some food ingredients should be taken in only moderate amounts and the meal as a social occasion is important. Even in old age enjoyment of food and good digestion are to be expected, and being a little overweight is probably a good thing.
